the largest lake within Maine's Belgrade Lakes chain.
It rests at the panoramic tip of Jamaica Point in the town
of Rome, adjacent to Belgrade Lakes and its quaint village. The
lodge is less than 3 1/2 hours north of Boston off Rte.
95 and 1 1/2 hours north of Portland. (The Belgrade
Lakes chain lies northwest of Augusta. Guests may
fly into either Portland or Bangor.) |
| 1 |
From
the Boston area, travel north on Rte. 95
toward Maine and New Hampshire. (Once in Maine, Rte.
95 turns into the Maine Turnpike, which is
a toll road. You may opt to stay on the Turnpike until
the Gardiner toll booth, when it remerges
with Rte. 95. Then follow the simple directions below,
picking up at number 4. The toll road
offers fast-food rest stops past Portland. Rte. 95 offers
only one fast-food rest stop before Portland.)
|
| 2 |
To
avoid the toll road, just before Portland, take Exit
44 to connect to Rte. 295 North,
passing Portland and the ocean bay. |
| 3 |
You
will pass through Freeport and Brunswick
and merge with the Maine Turnpike in Gardiner
and pass through a toll booth. |
| 4 |
Just
past Augusta, take Exit 112B
(formerly 31B) marked: Belgrade Lakes, Routes 27,
11, and 8 North. |
| 5 |
Stay
on Rte. 27 through the quaint village of
Belgrade Lakes. After the town you will cross a little
bridge (joining Long Lake and Great Pond).
|
| 6 |
Proceed
past the bridge for about 3 miles and turn
right on Rte. 225. (A little
white building on the right, currently an antique
store, sits on the corner of Rte. 27 and 225.)
|
| 7 |
Travel
3.9 miles on Rte. 225 and turn right on Jamaica Point
Road, across from a weathered shingle barn at the
top of a hill. The road is marked by a small blue sign
that reads "Bear Spring Camps."
|
| 8 |
Continue
down scenic Jamaica Point Road to the end of paved road.
(Slow
down when you see the white farmhouse on the left overlooking
the lake; the paved road ends suddenly.)
|
| 9 |
At
the end of the paved road turn right onto the dirt
road (West Point Lane). You are less than 1⁄2
mile from the lodge, traveling on gravel roads.
|
| 10 |
Bear
left at the next three forks to the end of
the gravel road. When you see the water
and the large home at the tip of the Point, painted mustard
yellow, you have arrived at Jamaica Point Lodge.
