As leaves
change, September and October present perhaps the nicest times
at Jamaica Point Lodge. Many warm days remain for outdoor
hiking, canoeing and other activities. Chilly evenings
are spent around stone fireplaces and the All-Nighter wood
stove, which heats the Great Room to toasty temperatures.
Short hikes up many nearby trails overlooking the Belgrade
Lakes offer panoramic views and dramatic colors.
Vocal loons gather on the water in large clans, readying for
migrations.

The
20-minute hike up French's Mountain offers stellar lake
views, particularly in fall. |
Bring
your clubs to play the spectacular Belgrade Lakes Golf Course,
ranked one of the top public courses in the country.
Even non-golfers are invited in and around the course’s
clubhouse to appreciate the panoramic views of Belgrade Lakes.
And don’t
forget to watch our copy of “On Golden Pond” along
with your own DVDs (or shows found on the lodge’s
satellite dish and Tivo). As the propaganda on this
website reports elsewhere, “On Golden Pond” was
filmed in Squam Lake in New Hampshire. However,
the lake at Jamaica Point is the real “On Golden
Pond, written about by playwright Ernest Thompson, a long-time
Belgrade Lakes camp owner. (The mail is still delivered
by boat in summer months.)
The classic
movie was shot at Squam Lake, which offered more facilities
for cast and crew. However, Belgrade Lakes, in our biased
view, offers more serenity and a remarkably similar look-and-feel
to the shots in the movie.
Jamaica
Point Lodge can be rented for groups, often between six and
18, for extended fall weekends either two-, three-
or four-night stays.
